Introduction to Digital Forensics and Cybercrime

Understanding network security and incident response is not enough for today’s investigative, intelligence, and response professionals. These individuals must be able to locate, secure, and complete offsite forensic analysis. Introduction to Digital Forensics and Cybercrime is designed to fulfill this role. This is an intensive introduction to forensic computing geared toward technical professionals who need to hit the ground running without being tied to a particular tool or methodology. Individuals preparing for the CHFI or other forensic exam will be well prepared by attending this class.  This course covers what forensic computing is, how to conduct electronic discovery, how to analyze data collected, and how to prepare reports.

Class Size

Because the class has extensive hands-on labs, class sizes are kept small, allowing for maximum interaction between the instructor and the students as they work through the labs that follow each chapter. Students are expected to be familiar with operating systems and networking technology. Backgrounds in IP networking, Linux, and Windows operating systems will be most applicable to the in-class exercises and examples given, but professionals with backgrounds in other systems should have little difficulty relating the coursework to their specific environments.

Benefits

Students attending Introduction to Digital Forensics and Cybercrime will learn the following:

1. The Basics of Computer Forensics
2. How to Build Your Own Digital Forensics Toolkit
3. Proven Investigative Strategies
4. Skills to Track an Offender on the Internet
5. Password Recovery
6. Basic PC Theory
7. The 5 A’s of Forensics
